Developing Content for LKIF: Ontologies and Frameworks for Legal Reasoning
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this article we present the structure and an outline of the content of the LKIF-Core. LKIF is an interchange format for legal knowledge, under development in Estrella, a 6th framework European project. One of the layers of LKIF consists of a combination of the OWL-DL/SWRL knowledge representation languages in which LKIF-Core is written. LKIF-Core contains an ontology that has definitions of basic legal concepts. A number of these concepts are combined in frameworks that represent the use of these concepts (e.g. norms) in legal reasoning. LKIF-Core is intended for re-use in modelling legal knowledge bases and as a semantic basis in translating existing knowledge formats into LKIF.

Constructing Legal Arguments with Rules in the Legal Knowledge Interchange Format (LKIF)
The Legal Knowledge Interchange Format (LKIF), being developed in the European ESTRELLA project, defines a knowledge representation language for arguments, rules, ontologies, and cases in XML. In this article, the syntax and argumentation-theoretic semantics of the LKIF rule language is presented and illustrated with an example based on German family law. This example is then applied to show ho...

متن کاملOntology Population and Alignment for the Legal Domain: YAGO, Wikipedia and LKIF
We present a methodology and framework to align ontologies through annotation of texts, and we show how this methodology applies successfully to the legal domain. This method reduces the difficulty of aligning ontologies, because annotators are asked to associate two labels from different inventories to a concrete example, which requires a simple judgment. In a second phase, those correspondenc...
متن کاملLKIF Core: Principled Ontology Development for the Legal Domain
In this paper we describe a legal core ontology that is part of the Legal Knowledge Interchange Format: a knowledge representation formalism that enables the translation of legal knowledge bases written in different representation formats and formalisms. A legal (core) ontology can play an important role in the translation of existing legal knowledge bases to other representation formats, in pa...

The use of Structured English as a computation independent knowledge representation format for non-technical users in business rules representation has been proposed in OMG’s Semantics and Business Vocabulary Representation (SBVR). In the legal domain we face a similar problem. Formal representation languages, such as OASIS’ LegalRuleML and legal ontologies (LKIF, legal OWL2 ontologies etc.) su...
